iPowow - making media smart
Devices such as Internet-enabled smartphones and tablet computers are enabling consumers to interact with traditional media content in news ways, such as surfing websites while watching television. For traditional media owners however, including television broadcasters, this can mean that the consumer’s attention is divided, and hence the result for advertisers is diminished.
iPowow gives broadcasters and other content owners new options for encouraging interaction from their audiences in real time. It uses a smartphone-based application though which consumers interact with content, such as voting in a television-based poll. This feedback is then received and processed by iPowow’s secure, cloud-based network which is able to handle more than a million responses per second, delivering almost instant feedback to participants.
Existing feedback mechanisms such as text messaging have demonstrated consumers’ desire to interact with content. But these methods have been clumsy to use and limited in their functionality. iPowow takes advantage of the high penetration of smartphones amongst consumer populations to create a feedback mechanism that offers a broader range of functions, and can be integrated with social media channels.
iPowow has two channel offerings. Its Live channel engages audiences of live television shows, while its Social platform connects global celebrities and fans in the social networking landscape. This expands the levels of interaction they may have generated through Twitter and Facebook and enables them to create new instant feedback channels.
iPowow has already been adopted by numerous global content brands including Top Rank Boxing, Cirque Du Soleil, the American Music Awards, and American sporting icon Shaquille O’Neal.
