Tapit Media

Mobile phones provide a wealth of opportunities for interaction between consumers and a range of physical goods and media types by enabling the delivery of additional information and content from the Internet. But these opportunities have been stifled by the difficulty that consumers experience in finding the relevant information online.

Tapit Media provides a means for goods and content owners to immediately connect with consumers via their mobile devices using a wireless technology called near-field communication (NFC). This involves the use of tiny, low-cost computer chips that can be attached to physical items such as posters, flyers, shelf labels or other physical goods. When a suitably-equipped mobile device is bought close to one of these chips (ie, when it is ‘tapped’) it recognises it and delivers relevant related content from the internet. Tags can be used to generate a variety of outcomes, such as directing consumers to websites, updating social media sites, or downloading content such as ringtones and videos.

Use of NFC means that Tapit is superior to competing systems based on printed QR codes, location-based services, or having the consumer manually type in a web address or send an SMS message, as it requires no installation and involves the least effort for consumers. The Tapit system will however also support use of QR codes and SMS responses.

Tapit provides a complete cloud-based solution for linking objects to content, from the NFC chip-enabled tags through to the content delivery system. It also includes a full analytics engine that monitors, displays and reports on usage, and also actively monitors tag usage to determine if tags require replacement.
